My Weight Watchers meeting/weigh in always give me a half hour at least, to ponder, sometimes steam about, and to reflect upon what I could be doing better so as not to repeat the same old habits that got me where I am today. (i.e. to many fruits and vegetables are not the problem.)
So in order to beat the bulge, stay on track, and not blow the benefit of the 2 1/2 mile run for the day, every day, I succumbed to, what I hope will be, three diverting reads.
Major Pettigrew's Last Stand, Water for Elephants, and The Postmistress.
Honestly, I wanted The Help, by Kathryn Stockett, but refused to spend full price on a hardback and in so doing spent more on three paperbacks.
Shhhh, don't tell Mister. :)
I know nothing more about these books other than that they are best sellers, prominently displayed at the book store, with glowing recommendations by people that I have never met. Hopefully I will be delightfully pleased, maybe even touched.
Now these three lovely distractions sit upon my nightstand, far away from the kitchen, waiting to be devoured, and the chocolate chips are safe for at least one more week.
Good bye 13 pounds, never to be seen again.
Ooooh good idea! So do you read when you want to eat or do you also reward yourself with books when you reach a goal? Wonderful.
ReplyDeleteYes, both! I am actually half way now. I have lost a whopping 63 pounds to be exact since I started a year ago, 13 since I started weight watchers. I am trying everything constructive that I can think of to change my lifestyle versus just losing weight. I have already done that all my life. This needs to be a permanent thing. I refuse to waste my 30's being heavy! :)
ReplyDeleteI hear you! Your losing weight hours are better than mine though - mine are from about 10pm-6am :)! (I count on losing about 2-3 lbs. while I sleep :)!!! Ha ha. Oh, and I highly recommend "The Help". It is thought provoking and the characters are awesome! I'm sure your library has it! Good luck - and thanks for inspiring me to do better! I'm going to go hide my chocolate chips - maybe that is my problem - I should have someone else hide the chocolate!

ReplyDeleteFANTASTIC!!! So awesome to reward yourself with books! I love that idea...reading is such a guilty pleasure to me...sigh. :)
ReplyDeleteAnd congrats--63 pounds down. AWESOME, AWESOME, AWESOME!
Go Missy! You are amazing woman! I am getting all my WW stuff back out trying to prepare for swimsuit season. If only we could swim in spanx and jeans right?!? I just may have to use this as a guilty pleasure. A friend of mine borrowed the help for me yesterday and I am dying to get it from her to dive into it. I have heard amazing things. Lemme know how these are...I just may have to indulge myself as well :)
